I have been asked by several church members and others to write a blog and share my thoughts and heart for the Bible, theology, and Aloma Church through the medium of print. In all honesty, I have been very reluctant to do this.

So, I listed out the reasons against and the reasons for a blog. I prayed about it. YES, I actually did pray about it! And I finally came away with a desire and conviction to write a blog. I also came away with four main areas that will govern everything that is posted here.

I’m not special. Who wants to read my thoughts anyway? Honestly, to look inside my brain can be very scary at times! Trust me…when you combine a bit of OCD with a bit of ADD and mix it together with a host of others things….it gets weird in my noggin! However, I know that none of us are perfect and we all have our own issues.

Maybe my issues can help someone with their issues and we can lean on each other! Also, at times, we will have guest post entries from staff and church members from Aloma Church.

This is not about me…I want to make it about Him and point others in that direction!

TIMING….

Up to this point I haven’t had the time to do anything like this. Balancing my pastoral responsibilities with family and life and PhD…I have felt like I was needing to cram 40 hours worth of time into a 24 hour day! But now that the PhD is for all practical purposes completed…I have a little window to write some things once in a while.

I plan to write something here every other week or so…at times more, at times less…but will try to have some level of consistency….again, it’s a battle between my OCD that wants a schedule and my ADD that tears up the schedule! Rest assured, other posts will definitely come, the matter of when will become a matter of mystery!

Fun and True

So much that I read in the social media realm is so uptight and often an article in Snopes because it’s not true! There is a time to be serious and a time to sound the alarm and raise the battle flag. I just think there is so much out there that takes a serious tone that I didn’t want to add to that. Furthermore, blogs and such take a bad rap through partisan traps and linking to certain things that may be the opinion of the writer but are not empirically true.

While there will be times I write through a serious tone…I want to keep this blog light-hearted. I love to laugh and joke. Often times the best medicine is laughter! But there are times when I know I must be serious and in those times I want to make certain I stand on the Truth of God’s Word and not simply my opinion.

The Gospel

This probably should have been first on the list….but remember, Jesus did say the last is actually first! I view this blog as another avenue to get the message of the Gospel out there. Yes, others are doing it and yes, they probably do it better than me. I’m cool with that!

However, what if Paul said to God, “You know what Lord, I don’t need to plant churches, Peter is already doing that!” PLEASE UNDERSTAND, I’m in no way comparing myself with Paul!! But I do think so many Christians, pastors included, cop-out with the thinking of “someone else is already doing it” or the Baptist-no, “I’ll pray about doing it.”

My prayer is that through the words I write the saving power of the Gospel will become more real in all of our lives!

So, sit back, buckle up…I’m certain we are in for a ride!

Blessings!
